Charges Dismissed Against Detroit Man Charged in the Fatal Shooting of Sgt. Collin Rose
On November 22, 2016 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Officer Rose conducted a traffic investigation of a male riding a bicycle in the area of Lincoln and Brainard in Detroit. On Friday, November 25, 2016, DeAngelo Lamar Davis, 31 (DOB: 6/2/1985), of Detroit, was charged and arraigned in connection with the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Wayne State University Police Sgt. Collin Rose.
After the case was charged, the Detroit Police Department continued to investigate the case. As a result of the investigation, DeAngelo Davis has been eliminated as a suspect in the case. Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy, along with Detroit Police Chief James Craig and Wayne State University Police Chief Anthony Holt, announced that the charges of First Degree Murder, Felony Firearm, Murder of a Police Officer, Felony Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm will be dismissed today. The charges were dismissed this morning by 36th District Court Judge Nance-Adams.
Prosecutor Worthy said, "After a review of new evidence, prosecutors and the police have determined that DeAngelo Davis is not a suspect in the death of Sgt. Collin Rose. Mr. Davis will have all charges dismissed against him. The Homicide Task Force, comprised of the Detroit Police Department and the Michigan State Police, continues to aggressively commit their time and resources to investigate the death of Sgt. Rose. For this reason, we are not at liberty to provide further details about the dismissed case and the ongoing investigation."
