Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Corey Kelvin Hill, 25 (DOB: 11/02/1990), of Detroit, in the carjacking and non-fatal shooting of 81-year-old Herman Garth. On August 30, 2016 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Mr. Garth was leaving a convenience store in the 18000 block of Joy Road in Detroit when he noticed two males standing at his vehicle. It is alleged that one of the men grabbed Mr. Garth while Hill pulled out a gun and demanded money and the car keys. It is further alleged that after the victim complied with the demands, Defendant Hill shot him and drove away from the scene. The other man fled the scene on foot. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Defendant Hill has been charged with Carjacking; Armed Robbery; Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder; Unlawful Driving Away - Automobile; Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property - Motor Vehicle; Possession of Cocaine; Carrying a Concealed Weapon; Felon in Possession - Weapon; Felon in Possession - Ammunition and Felony Firearm.

Defendant Hill was arraigned today before Magistrate Millicent Sherman in 36th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 20, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for September 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $200,000 cash/surety bond.
