Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old Detroit Male - WCPO has a warrant request that is currently being reviewed. An arraignment is not expected on this case today.

Stuart Lewis - Case Number 16721130-01 - Defendant Lewis was charged in connection with spray painting threats directed at DPD on a building in Detroit. Today his preliminary examination was held before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston and she dismissed the Threat of Terrorism count and bound over on the remaining counts of Possession of Marijuana and Malicious Destruction of a Building.

Case Number 16720731-01 - Defendant Lewis was charged in connection with assaulting a man when Lewis’s car was being repossessed. He was bound over as charged on Felonious Assault and Felony Firearm charges today by Judge Lewis Langston.

Lewis will be arraigned on both cases on December 20, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. His bond is same on cases, $25,000/10% with GPS tether and no contact with any witnesses.

Timmy Lynn Soto - Defendant charged in the homicide of Detroit firefighter David Madrigal. Today he was sentenced to 38 years to 80 years on Second Degree Murder charge and two years consecutive for Felony Firearm.

Defendant Christian Rasnick pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder and will be sentenced on December 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Defendant Nicole Oneill is charged with Armed Robbery; Arson Third Degree; Larceny in a Building and is scheduled for a jury trial on March 8, 2017.

Parents Charged in Burning of Five-Year-Old Highland Park Girl

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lenard Smith, 36 (DOB: 08/03/1980) and Evette Latice Walker, 31 (DOB: 12/17/1984), both of Highland Park, with Child Abuse Second Degree (10-year maximum penalty) in connection with the burning of their child. On December 9, 2016 at approximately 1:00 to 1:30 a.m., a five- year- old girl was in the family home located on Puritan in Highland Park when she burned herself while she was playing with a cigarette lighter. It is alleged that Smith and Walker knew the child had been injured and failed to seek appropriate medical care, instead applying Vaseline and toilet paper to her wounds. On December 13, 2016, Highland Park officers were dispatched to the Puritan house and transported the child to a local hospital where she was treated for infection and third degree burns on her on her chest, arms and back.

Today Smith and Walker were arraigned today in 30th district Court before Judge Bridget Officer. The Probable Cause Conference is on December 20, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Defendant Smith’s bond is $150,000 cash/surety and Defendant Walker’s bond is $100,000 cash/surety. Both defendants have been ordered to have no contact with children or anyone under the age of 17.

Grandmother Charged in Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old Boy

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lise Cox, 58 (DOB: 08/02/1958), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Emarjae Watkins. On Monday, December 12, 2016 at approximately 8:45 a.m., Ms. Cox went to work, leaving her two grandsons, ages 13 and 15, in her home in the 4300 block of Tireman. It is alleged that Ms. Cox kept a handgun on the floor underneath the dresser in her bedroom and that she was aware that both of her grandsons knew the location of the weapon and the ammunition.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on the same day, Emarjae and another boy came over to Ms. Cox’s house. It is alleged that while her 13-year-old grandson was playing with the gun, it discharged, fatally striking Emarjae in the back. Emarjae was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Tuesday, December 13, 2016, Ms. Cox’s 13-year-old grandson was charged as a juvenile respondent with: Manslaughter - Death by Weapon Aimed with Intent but Without Malice; Felony Firearm; and Careless Discharge Causing Injury or Death.* A preliminary hearing was held and bond was set by Referee Leslie Graves at $7,500/ 10%. A pretrial hearing before Judge Frank Szymanski is scheduled for December 16, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Lincoln Hall of Justice.

Today Ms. Cox has been charged with one count of Involuntary Manslaughter (Grossly negligent storage / maintenance of the handgun, resulting in Emarjae’s death); two counts of Child Abuse Second Degree (Knowingly committing an act likely to cause serious physical harm. One count for each grandson.); and Felony Firearm.* She is expected to be arraigned this morning in 36th District Court.

Grosse Ile Animal Torture Case, Defendants Tanner Coolsaet and Michael Roth - Today Judge Groner adjourned the sentencing hearing for the two defendants. The new date is January 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

Marquise Cromer - Charged in fatal shooting of DPD Sgt. Kenneth Steil September, 2016. WCPO requested that an independent expert evaluate the defendant for competence to stand trial. The report has not been completed and filed with the court. The adjourned date is January 9, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

Christian Rasnick - Defendant charged in the homicide of Detroit firefighter David Madrigal. Today he was sentenced to 10 to 30 years in prison for Second Degree Murder.

Nicole Oneill - She is charged with Armed Robbery; Arson Third Degree; Larceny in a Building in connection with the David Madrigal case and is scheduled for a jury trial on March 8, 2017.

Dennis Patterson - Today the former Treasurer’s Department employee convicted of three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Fourth Degree was sentenced to ten months to four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections, must register as a sex offender, and participate in sex offender counseling.

Andrea Ariel-Jones Sheppard - Woman charged in connection with firing into a home on Greydale that she purchased from the Detroit Land Bank. Sheppard was arraigned today in circuit court and set a docket conference for January 3, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge David Groner.

David Didlake - Defendant charged in connection with allegations of lighting his girlfriend’s dog on fire. Today the defendant waived his preliminary examination on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in Lincoln Park in 25th District Court. He was bound over on the charges of Animals - Killing/Torturing and Resisting/Obstructing Police Officer. The bond was not changed and the defendant remained in custody. It is scheduled for the arraignment on the information before Judge David Groner on December 20, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.

Roksana Sikorski - Today Judge James Callahan set a pre-hearing date in the case for January 6, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. for his successor, Judge Thomas Hathaway to set a hearing date for the Defendant’s Motion to Withdraw Guilty Plea.

13-Year-Old Juvenile Respondent - The teen male was charged as a juvenile in connection with the December 12, 2016 fatal shooting of 13-year-old Detroit victim Emarjae Watkins. Today Judge Frank Szymanski held a pre-trial hearing and ordered that the juvenile respondent be referred for a competency evaluation. The next pre-trial date is on January 30, 2017 at the Lincoln Hall of Justice.

Lise Cox - On December 12, 2016, Defendant Cox, the grandmother of the 13- year-old who fatally shot Emarjae Watkins, was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Child Abuse Second Degree, and Felony Firearm. She will have her probable cause hearing on December 22, 2016 and her preliminary examination on December 28, 2016 in 36th District Court.
