Inkster Fire Chief Charged in Domestic Violence Cases

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged John Daniel Adams, 51, (DOB: 09/01/1964) with Domestic Violence. It is alleged that on May 26, 2016, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Adams attempted to force his wife (DOB: 09/21/1970) to unlock her phone. During the exchange, she sustained injury to her right wrist. On April 19, 2016, at approximately 8:00 p.m., it is also alleged that the defendant and the victim got into an argument that escalated to physical assault. Both incidents occurred at their Canton home.

Adams has been arraigned, and a pre-trial is scheduled for both cases for June 10, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Michael Gerou in 35th District Court. The defendant received a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

Charges Amended to Murder for Three Detroit Men Charged in Shooting of Infant

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Cleveland Tyvon Smelley, 30 (DOB: 7/27/16), Deonta Charles Bennett, 21 (DOB: 12/14/94) and Antoine Lamar Smelley, 32 (DOB: 11/26/83) in connection with the shooting of a three-year-old girl, Makanzee Oldham (DOB: 06/13/2013). All three men are Detroit residents. On May 25, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., it is alleged that Antoine Smelley was at a home in the 16400 block of Fairmount. He poured juice over the head of a woman who was getting ready to leave the house to go to a prom. Antoine Smelley pulled out a handgun and threatened the young woman and her friends. Shortly thereafter, Cleveland Smelley and Bennett drove over to the house and met briefly with Antoine Smelley. Once outside, the men engaged in a fight with several people. During the fight, it is alleged that Bennett gave a handgun to Cleveland Smelley, who shot at seven people in a car, including Makanzee Oldham, who was seriously wounded and recently succumbed to her injuries.

All three defendants are charged with seven counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, and one count each of First Degree Murder. Additionally, Cleveland Smelly is charged with Felony Firearm - Second Offense. Defendant Deonta Bennett is also charged with Felony Firearm. Defendant Antoine Smelley is additionally charged with two counts of Felonious Assault and Felony Firearm.

The defendants have been arraigned. The probable cause conference is scheduled for June 9, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for June 16, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., both hearings before Judge Shannon Holmes. The defendants are expected to be arraigned on the First Degree Murder charges on June 9, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.

Three Detroiters Charged and Arraigned in Memorial Day Armed Robbery of U.S. Service Members

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged three Detroit males in the Armed Robbery of four U.S. Service Members. It is alleged that on May 30, 2016, at approximately 12:10 p.m., four U.S. Service Members, ages 28, 26, 19 and 21, were robbed by three armed men in the area of Santa Maria and Meyers in the City of Detroit. The three defendants charged in this case are Anthony Jonvion Smith (DOB: 06/11/1996), Jawan Spears (DOB: 12/15/1996) and Mark Hansford (DOB: 02/13/1995), all from Detroit.

All three defendants are charged with four counts of Armed Robbery, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery and Felony Firearm. Defendant Smith is also charged with Felon in Possession; Defendant Hansford is additionally charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

The defendants were arraigned May 31, 2016. A probable cause conference is scheduled for June 8, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for June 13, 2916 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King. Defendants Smith and Hansford each received a $100,000 cash/surety bond; Defendant Spears received a $250,000 cash/surety bond.
