Melvindale Man Charged in Southgate Workplace Homicide

Devon Hampton, (DOB: 1/20/90), of Melvindale, has been charged with First Degree Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felonious Assault and Felony Firearm. It is alleged that on September 2, 2016, at 11:35 p.m., at a workplace located in the 11800 block of Reeck Road in Southgate, Hampton got into a verbal argument with a male co-worker and took out gun and fatally shot him in the chest.

Hampton was arraigned on September 4, 2016 in 34th District Court before Magistrate Hindman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 16, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge James Kandrevas in 28th District Court.

Detroit Duo Charged in Detroit Carjackings

Deonte Christopher Russell, (DOB:5/17/98), and Dontonio Benjamin Jones (DOB:3/6/95), both of Detroit, have been charged with: Carjacking, Unlawful Driving Away an Automobile (UDAA), Fleeing and Eluding Third Degree, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, and Resisting Arrest.

On September 2, 2016 at approximately 12:10, p.m., the defendants are alleged to have carjacked a 49-year-old woman and her 85-year-old grandmother while they were at a gas station in the 15100 block of Greenfield in Detroit.

The two defendants have also been arraigned on charges of Carjacking and UDAA in connection with an August 31, 2016 carjacking of a 21-year-old man that occurred at 2:30 p.m. at a gas station in the 11600 block of Greenfield in Detroit.

For both cases, the probable cause conference is scheduled for September 14, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for September 21, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.

Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Shooting on Coyle Street

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Desmon Armon Jackson, 25 (DOB: 12/30/90), of Detroit, with First Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm. On September 4, 2016 at approximately 11:10 p.m. in front of a home in the15000 block of Coyle Street, it is alleged that Jackson fatally shot Martell Harris, 26, of Detroit, after a verbal argument. Detroit police were called to the scene and Harris was observed lying on the front lawn with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. It is further alleged that Jackson shot a second man multiple times on the front lawn. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. After the shooting, the defendant removed all of his clothes inside the home on Coyle and fled naked on foot from the crime scene. Shortly thereafter Jackson was located and placed under arrest by Detroit police officers.

Jackson was arraigned in 36th District Court today before Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 14, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for September 19, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.

Detroit Man and Wife Charged with Embezzlement from Non- Profit

Dalton Roberson Jr., 42 (DOB: 11/08/1972) and his wife Jakeema Roberson, 41 (DOB: 09/17/1973), both of Detroit, are alleged to have created and opened bank accounts for several non-existent non-profit organizations. The conduct occurred between 2012 through 2014, when Mr. Roberson was employed with Michigan Community Resources (MCR), located in the 600 block of Griswold in Detroit. It is further alleged that over $77,000 in funds were diverted from MCR and then placed in the fraudulent accounts.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged them with:

  • Embezzlement of more than $1,000 and less than $20,000 from a non-profit or charitable organization;
  • Embezzlement of more than $50,000 but less than $100,000;
  • Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement of more than $1,000 and less than $20,000 from a non-profit or charitable organization and
  • Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement of more than $50,000 but less than $100,000.

The preliminary examination scheduled for September 8, 2016 was waived and the Circuit Court arraignment is scheduled for September 22, 2016.

Redford Township Man Charged in Home Invasion and Sexual Assault

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ikeie Ranordo Smith, 32 (DOB: 05/02/84), of Redford Township in connection with a sexual assault. Mr. Smith has been charged with: one count of Home Invasion - First Degree, three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree, and one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct - Second Degree.

Mr. Smith was arraigned today in Garden City District Court and was remanded to custody.

No information regarding other potential cases that are currently being investigated or reviewed is being released at this time to prevent any such cases from being compromised. Updates will be sent out on Monday, September 12, 2016.
