Wayne County Commissioner Glenn S. Anderson receives honors from Western Wayne NAACP
Wayne County Commissioner Glenn S. Anderson (D-Westland) was honored with the Leading Through Service Award presented by the Western Wayne County NAACP during its annual Freedom Fund Dinner,
held Oct. 20.
The award was presented in honor of Commissioner Anderson's continued involvement with the local NAACP branch, as well as with the community at large.
"I am deeply honored to receive this honor from an organization that has done so much to promote freedom and justice for all," Commissioner Anderson said. Commissioner Anderson has been an NAACP member since 1992.
The Western Wayne branch was named Michigan NAACP Branch of the Year in 2018.
Michigan Lt. Gov. Garland Gilchrist II was keynote speaker for the event.
Commissioner Anderson joined the Wayne County Commission in 2016 after serving eight years in the Michigan Senate and six in the Michigan House. He previously served nine years on the Westland City Council.
He is chair of the commission's Special Committee on the Criminal Justice Complex and vice chair of the Committee on Economic Development. He is also a member of the Committee on Ways & Means and the Committee on Health & Human Services.
Commissioner Anderson is a retired Ford Motor Co. employee and has been a UAW member since 1972. He and his wife, Gail, are parents of two adult children and three grandchildren.
The Western Wayne NAACP branch represents 24 communities, including Allen Park, Belleville, Brownstown Township, Canton Township, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Ecorse, Garden City, Inkster, Lincoln Park, Livonia, Melvindale, New Boston, Northville, Plymouth, Redford Township, River Rouge, Romulus, Sumpter Township, Taylor, Van Buren Township, Wayne, Westland and Wyandotte.
