Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Kong P. Kue, 36 (DOB: 7/8/1980), of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his 14-year-old son by his 10-year-old son. On March 20, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., at the family home in the 13700 block of Pfent in Detroit, it is alleged that Kue’s 14-year-old son and his 10-year-old son found an unsecured, loaded shotgun in the defendant’s unlocked bedroom. The 10-year-old was playing with the shotgun when he pulled the trigger, striking his brother in the abdomen. 911 was called and police and medics arrived at the location. The 14-year-old was transported to a local hospital where he continues to receive treatment for his wound.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "I have said this before and will say it again and again, these tragedies are absolutely 100 percent preventable. We have to do better and protect our children.”

Kue has been charged with Child Abuse Second Degree, which carries a maximum ten year penalty and Felony Firearm*, which carries a two year consecutive penalty. He was arraigned this morning at 10:30 a.m. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 4, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for April 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $25,000/10% bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
