Warren Man Charged in Three Detroit Rape Cases

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Gabriel Lamont Cooper, 31 ( DOB 2/6/82), of Warren, in connection with the sexual assault and armed robbery of three women that occurred in Detroit in September and December of 2012, and January of 2013. Please contact the Detroit Police Department for a photograph of Cooper.

1) Sexual Assault on September 26, 2012, at 10:00 p.m. at Fenkell and Tucker in Detroit

A 32-year old female was walking down the street when it is alleged that Cooper ran up behind her and placed a knife to her throat, took her to the back of an abandoned building and sexually assaulted her. It is also alleged that he robbed her of money and personal belongings. Cooper is charged with: Kidnapping, Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, Criminal Sexual Conduct - Second Degree, Armed Robbery, Felonious Assault, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.

2) Sexual Assault on December 29, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. in the 17500 block of Plainview in Detroit

A 33-year-old female was shoveling snow and went to her car and saw Cooper in her driveway. The woman alleged that Cooper had a handgun pointed at her and ordered her into her garage, where he robbed her of money and some personal items. It is further alleged that he drove her away in her car to parking lot and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. After the assault Cooper told the female to get out of the car and shortly thereafter, he fled on foot. He has been charged with Kidnapping, two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree, Armed Robbery, Felonious Assault, Unlawful Driving Away of a Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.

3) Sexual Assault on January 14, 2012, in the 12600 block of Roselawn in Detroit

A 27-year-old female met Cooper online and invited him to her house. Shortly after he arrived, it is alleged that he had a handgun and robbed her of her money and forced her to undress and sexually assaulted her. Cooper left her house in a van. He has been charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, Armed Robbery, Felonious Assault, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.

Cooper was arraigned today in 36th District Court and received a $2,000,000 Cash/Surety bond. His preliminary examination date is January 29, 2013.

Detroit Man Charged with Disinterment of Father's Dead Body

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Vincent Bright, 48, (DOB 2/9/64) of Detroit, with Disinterment of a Dead Body, a crime that carries a 10 year maximum penalty. On January 14, 2013, at approximately 8:00 a.m., it is alleged that Bright went to the 10700 block of Gratiot to Gethsemane Cemetery and took his father's dead body which was inside a casket near a burial site. The police were called and, after an investigation, the deceased man's body was allegedly taken to another location by Bright and placed in a freezer. The defendant is expected to be arraigned on the warrant at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013 in 36th District Court in Detroit.

Mr. Vincent Bright was just arraigned in 36th District Court. Magistrate Millicent Sherman ordered a $75,000 cash bond. The preliminary examination is set for January 24, 2013. Defense attorney is Jerry Karafa. Please contact the Detroit Police Department to obtain a photograph of Bright.
