JuJuan Parks Charged in Homicide of DPD Officer Rasheen McClain
Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged JuJuan Parks, 28 (DOB: 02/01/1991), of Detroit, in connection with the homicide of Detroit Police Officer Rasheen McClain, 46, and the non-fatal shooting of Officer Philippe Batoum-Bisse. On November 20, 2019 at 7:05 p.m., Officers McClain and Batoum-Bisse responded to a disturbance at a home in the 20040 block of Wyoming. McClain and Batoum-Bisse, with other responding officers, Danny Chambers and Joseph Weaver, entered the home and while going down into the basement, came under fire. It is alleged that Parks fatally shot Officer McClain in the neck and non-fatally wounded Officer Batoum-Bisse in the leg. Both were taken to a local hospital where Officer McClain succumbed to his injury and Officer Batoum-Bisse received treatment for his injury.
Chambers and Weaver observed Parks fleeing from the house on foot and the three exchanged gunfire. During the gunfire Parks was wounded in the arm. Parks was arrested a block away and taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Prosecutor Worthy said, "As the allegations surrounding the heartbreaking death of Officer McClain unfold, we continue to do what is necessary to bring his assailant to justice. There cannot be a rush to judgment. We charge JuJuan Parks with the death of Officer McClain today, but I would like to caution everyone that this investigation is far reaching and is not over. As always, we will be thorough and complete. Only the path of justice, and nothing else, will dictate further action."
JuJuan Parks has been charged with First Degree-Premeditated Murder, First Degree Murder of a Police Officer, three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Death, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Death, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Serious Impairment, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and eight counts of Felony Firearm Second Offense.* A date will be announced in the future for the video arraignment of Parks in 36th District Court. Other investigations related to this defendant are ongoing and therefore no comment will be made about them.

Farmington Hills Man Charged with Setting Woman on Fire
On November 14, 2019, Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged William G. Helmer, (DOB: 09/25/1956), in connection with setting a 62-year-old woman on fire. The defendant and the victim were acquainted with each other and both resided in Farmington Hills. On November 9, 2019, at 8:07 p.m. citizens flagged down a Redford police officer near a Coney Island in the 25810 block of Seven Mile Road in Redford because the 62-year-old victim was lying on the ground emitting smoke, with severe burns on her body. She was able to speak briefly before medics transported her to a local hospital for treatment. After the police requested help from the public to locate Helmer, he was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Task Force on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
The defendant was charged and arraigned on one count of Assault with Intent to Murder and Aggravated Assault in 17th District Court in Redford and remanded to jail.* The Probable Cause Conference was held today and the Preliminary Examination will be held on December 13, 2019. JuJuan Parks Charged in Homicide of DPD Officer Rasheen McClain
Parks will have a video arraignment on December 5, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in 36th District Court. Correction: Officer McClain was 46, not 42-years-old.
Note: Parks is charged with 16 felony counts. He is charged with only one count of First Degree Murder under alternate counts.

Parks was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 19, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 23, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. Southfield Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Chirin Kudeimati, 48, (DOB: 09/19/1971), of Southfield, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Najla Mateen, II, 40, of Detroit.
On December 4, 2019 at approximately 1:06 p.m., Redford police officers responded to the area of West McNichols Road and Telegraph Road in response to a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Detroit police officers and EMS also arrived on the scene and discovered the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation by both Redford and Detroit police officers led to the arrest of the defendant. It is alleged that the defendant was traveling northbound on Telegraph Road near the 23800 block of West McNichols Road when she struck the victim, who was in the crosswalk, disregarded the red signal and fled the scene.
Chirin has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Causing Death.* She is expected to be arraigned this afternoon after 1:00 p.m. in 36th District Court.
