Robert Bashara - The Post Conviction Evidentiary Hearing date was changed by Judge Vonda Evans from March 11, 2016 until April 12, 2016.

Taylor Fatal Car Crash - The Taylor Police Department submitted a warrant request in connection with a fatal car crash that killed a 17-year-old on February 27, 2016 in Taylor. A press release will issue when a charging decision has been made.

Taylor Man Charged in Fatal Hit and Run Crash

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Justin Robert Saum, 35 (DOD: 8/19/80), of Taylor, in connection with a fatal car crash that killed Austin McCumber, 17, of Taylor. On February 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., it is alleged that Saum was driving his pickup truck at the location of Joan and Harold Streets in Taylor, when he struck Mr. McCumber, who was on his minibike with a 17-year-old male passenger. After the collision, Saum drove away from the scene. Police and medics were called to the scene. Mr. McCumber was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. On March 1, 2016, Mr. McCumber died from the injuries he sustained in the accident. The passenger on the minibike was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation by the Taylor Police Department led to the identification of Saum as the driver who left the crash scene. Saum has been charged with Driving with License Suspended Causing Death, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Death, Driving with License Suspended Causing Serious Injury, Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident.

Saum was arraigned in 23rd District Court in Taylor this morning at 9:00 a.m. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 14, 2016 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 21, 2016 at 12:55 pm before Judge Geno Salomone. He received a bond of $350,000 cash/surety.

Marcus Glenn - Defendant charged in the fatal car crash that occurred at West Jefferson and Griswold in downtown Detroit. The preliminary examination was adjourned to March 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.

Marcus Hightower - Defendant charged in the deaths of Heidi Walker and her four-year-old daughter in Detroit. Today he was referred for competency and the next court date is June 6, 2016 before Judge Shannon Holmes.

Lt. Mark Okray, 46 - The City of Warren police department lieutenant has been charged with Disorderly Person (Intoxicated), a 90 day misdemeanor and Possession of a Weapon Under the Influence, a 93 day misdemeanor. On April 22, 2015, Okray was off-duty and carrying his service weapon at a Detroit bar located in the 1200 block of Randolph. He is alleged to have interfered with an assault investigation being conducted by Detroit Police officers and was detained.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office was informed today that Lt. Okray was arraigned on Thursday, March 3, 2016, and released on a $2,000.00 personal bond. His pretrial hearing is before Judge Kevin Robbins on April 4, 2016 at 9 a.m. in 36th District Court. His photograph is attached.

Detroit Man Charged in Homicide of Woman Reported Missing in 2015

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Jerry W. McCoy, 46 (DOB: 8/17/16), of Detroit, in connection with the homicide of Deann Louise Robinson, 20, of Detroit. Ms. Robinson was reported missing by her family on January 3, 2015. On February 26, 2016, as a result of the investigation by the Detroit Police Department, the body of the victim was discovered and McCoy was identified as the suspect in her homicide.

The defendant and the victim had known each other for several months prior to her death. It is alleged that on January 1, 2015, the defendant picked up Ms. Robinson and took her to his house in the 9600 block of Sorrento, strangled her to death, and removed her body to a location in the 2700 block of Sturtevant.

McCoy has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder. He is expected to be arraigned in 34th District Court in Romulus on Saturday, March 5, 2016 after 11:00 a.m.

Taylor Man Charged in Death of Four-Year-Old Daughter

Demar W. Canada, 25(DOB: 8/31/90), of Taylor, has been charged with Felony Murder and Second Degree Murder in connection with the death of his four-year-old daughter. On May 24, 2015 at 8:51 a.m., Taylor police were called to his home in the 25100 block of Darian Street because the child was found unresponsive. The child was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was from severe head trauma caused by the defendant. Further information regarding the facts of the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Canada is expected to be arraigned in 34th District Court after 11:00 a.m. in Romulus today.
