Mateen Cleaves - Defendant charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a 24-year-old Mount Morris, MI woman. The court changed the trial date from July 30, 2019 until August 6, 2019 because of a scheduling conflict.

Eddie Ray Johnson - Charged in the DV shooting death of DPD Sgt. Elaine Williams in Garden City. At the request of the defense, the preliminary examination is being adjourned from this Friday, July 26, 2019 until September 4, 2019.

Senior Woman Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting Incident

Andrea Henrietta Williams, 71 (DOB: 09/23/1947), of Detroit, has been charged in a non-fatal shooting incident. On July 18, 2019 at 12:27 p.m., in the 17400 block of Indiana, Williams had an argument with a 69-year-old male neighbor while he was cutting his lawn. It is alleged she got a handgun and shot the man in his foot. It is also alleged that she waved the gun around and pointed it at a man and two women during the incident.

Williams is charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, three counts of Felonious Assault, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent and five counts of Felony Firearm.*

Williams was arraigned out-county on July 21, 2019 before 34th District Court Magistrate Allen Hindman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 31, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 7, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $5,000/10% bond.

Deangelo Martin Charged in Kidnapping, Assault
and Sexual Assault of Second Woman

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Deangelo Kenneth Martin, 34 (DOB: 05/30/1985), of Detroit, in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 51-year-old Detroit woman. On June 3, 2019 at approximately 1:00 a.m., at a house on the eastside of Detroit, it is alleged that Martin kidnapped, strangled and sexually assaulted the victim.

Martin has been charged with Kidnapping, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm by Strangulation and Criminal Sexual Conduct - Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration.*

Martin is expected to be arraigned tomorrow July 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "This is Part Two. We will continue to work on other cases where this defendant may also be involved."

The Detroit Police Department investigation related to this defendant is ongoing. The facts and evidence in this case will be presented on the record in court. No further information will be released at this time.

Defendant Martin was arraigned today in 36th District Court and remanded to jail. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 1, 2019 at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 8, 2019 before Judge Lynise Bryant-Weekes at 9:00 a.m.

Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Beating of Berkeley Man

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lawrence James Davis, 23 (DOB: 07/29/1995), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal beating of Tyler Jordan Wingate, 24, of Berkeley, MI.

On July 22, 2019 sometime after 1:00 a.m., the victim and his passenger were driving northbound on Livernois Avenue when they crashed into another vehicle. The victim and the passenger exited the vehicle and walked into the gas station parking lot. It is alleged that the defendant struck the victim in the head and, after the victim fell, continued to strike him and kick him. The defendant then fled the scene on foot. At approximately 1:45 a.m. on the same day, Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of West Davison and Livernois Avenue in response to a call about a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers observed Mr. Wingate lying on the ground unresponsive in the parking lot of a gas station located in the 13500 block of Livernois. The officers also observed two vehicles nearby with apparent accident damage.

Medics arrived on the scene, and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigation by the Detroit Police resulted in the identification of the Davis. More complete facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.

Davis has been charged with Open Murder.* Because the defendant is currently at large, an update will be sent out when Davis is in custody.

Gas Station Clerk Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting Over Stolen Chips

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged gas station clerk Safaa H. Marzok, 27 (DOB: 08/12/1991) of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of 22-year-old Tavarlis Durham, also of Detroit, at a gas station located in the 17700 block of West Warren.

On July 23, 2019 at 10:30 p.m., Marzok was working in the store portion of the gas station when he had a verbal argument with Durham and another 22-year-old Detroit man. After words were exchanged, he observed Durham holding the door for the other man, who took several bags of potato chips and walked toward the door without paying for the merchandise. It is alleged that Marzok retrieved a gun and ran from behind the counter, pointing the gun at the man holding the chips. As the man with the chips continued walking toward the door, it is alleged that Marzok fired the weapon through the glass door, striking Durham. Durham was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Marzok has been charged with two counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Injury, Tampering with Evidence, Obstruction of Justice and five counts of Felony Firearm.*

Marzok was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 8, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 15, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

Detroit Man Charged in Hamtramck Assaults

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marcus Maxwell Ross, 32, (DOB: 10/14/1986), of Detroit, in connection with two separate incidences of assault and robbery in Hamtramck.

Jos Campau and Casmere Sexual Assault

On July 14, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a 16-year-old female was walking in the area of Jos Campau and Casmere in Hamtramck when she was approached by the defendant. It is alleged that the defendant forced her into an alley and sexually assaulted her. The assault was reported to the police. Medics transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

Ross has been charged with Kidnapping, three counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Assault by Strangulation, Felonious Assault and Armed Robbery.* He is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in 31st District Court in Hamtramck.


Caniff Sexual Assault


On July 18, 2019, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a 37-year-old woman was walking eastbound on Caniff in Hamtramck and observed that she was being followed by a man. After losing sight of him, the victim went home. At approximately 4:51 p.m., while she was sleeping, she was awakened by the defendant on top of her. As she struggled with him, she was hit several times then he left the scene on foot.

Investigation by the Hamtramck Police led to the arrest of the defendant. More complete facts and evidence in the cases will be presented at the preliminary examination.

Ross has been charged with Home Invasion First Degree, Criminal Sexual Conduct - Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Penetration, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm and Felonious Assault.* He is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in 31st District Court in Hamtramck.
