River Rouge Man Charged in Oak Street Homicide

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Justin Joseph Pruneau, 33 (DOB: 12/04/1983), in connection with the death of Robert Carson Cook, 59. Both of the men were River Rouge residents and were acquainted with one another. On July 21, 2017 at approximately 8:05 p.m., it is alleged that Pruneau rode a bicycle with a rifle concealed in a garbage bag to Cook's home located in the 40th block of Oak Street in River Rouge. Once inside the home, it is further alleged that Pruneau discharged the weapon, wounding Cook in the abdomen. Shortly after the shooting, Cook was transported by medics to a local hospital where he expired from the wound. Pruneau fled from the home on his bicycle and was arrested by River Rouge police officers later on the same day.

Pruneau has been charged with Open Murder and Felony Firearm*. He was arraigned this afternoon in 25th District Court. Pruneau has been remanded to jail and his probable cause conference will be on August 1, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before 25th District Court Judge Gregory Clifton. No preliminary examination date has been given at this time.

Two Men Charged in City of Wayne Assault of Senior Man

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ryan Darrell Fletcher, 35 (DOB: 06/16/1982) and Jacob Jesse Rose, 23 (DOB: 03/21/1990), both of Garden City, in connection with the assault of a 70- year-old male senior citizen.

On July 23, 2017 at approximately 2:34 a.m., Wayne City police officers were dispatched to a fight in a parking lot behind a bar located in the 35000 block of West Michigan Avenue in Wayne, MI. It is alleged that Fletcher and Rose encountered the victim near his car with his dog and threw the dog at his car. It is further alleged that the two defendants beat the victim while he was lying on the ground with his car radio. Police were dispatched to the scene, and upon arrival, they found the victim, injured and unconscious. Medics were dispatched to the location and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Further investigation led to the arrest of the defendants. The facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.

Both defendants have been charged with Assault With Intent to Murder and Felonious Assault*. They were arraigned yesterday afternoon before Magistrate Linda Gable in 29th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 8, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in 29th District Court before Judge Laura Mack. No preliminary examination date has been scheduled at this time. Both defendants received a $100,000 cash bond.

Lincoln Park Man Charged in Fatal Crash Killing Wayne County Road Worker

On Wednesday, July 26, 2017 Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Bobby Lee Collins, 47 (DOB: 05/31/1969), of Lincoln Park, in connection with a fatal car crash that killed David Wolf, 47, and injured Wilbert King. Collins was employed as a truck driver for Wayne County at the time of the crash. Wolf and King were also employed by Wayne County, repairing roads on the day of the crash.

On March 23, 2017 at approximately 10:39 a.m., near Van Born and Fellrath Roads in Taylor, it is alleged that Collins was driving a Wayne County truck when he crashed into Wolf and King as they were working filling asphalt on damaged portions of the road. Medics arrived at the scene and transported Wolf and King to a local hospital. Wolf died at the hospital from multiple injuries sustained in the crash. King was treated for serious injuries to his abdomen and leg that he sustained in the crash.

Collins has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death (Wolf), Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment (King), Work Zone Death and Work Zone Injury.* Collins was arraigned this morning before 23rd District Court Judge Geno Salomone. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 7, 2017 at 12:55 p.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for August 14, 2017 at 12:55 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Salomone in 23rd District Court. The defendant received a $50,000 personal bond. .

Virgil Smith - WCPO has filed the Leave to Appeal in the Virgil Smith case. The Michigan Supreme Court Docket Number is 156182. The defense response is due on August 23, 2017.

Willie Wilborn - Detroit man charged with First Degree Murder in the June 18, 2017 homicide of LaDiamond Myers on Braille Street in Detroit. Today the preliminary examination was held and, at the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Kenneth King found that there was insufficient evidence of probable cause to allow him to bind over the defendant and he dismissed the case. Maria Miller said, "The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will be re-issuing this case. In order to do so, we will need to present additional evidence to the court. We are working with the police to get the necessary evidence to re-issue charges against Willie Wilborn in homicide of Ms. Myers."
