Eastpointe Man Charged in Robbery and Fatal Shooting Over Cartier Glasses
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Mario Martinez Buthia, 20 (08/11/1998), of Eastpointe in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of Latae'o Nathan Garrett, 18, also of Eastpointe. On May 25, 2019 at 11:23 p.m. Detroit police officers were dispatched to a shooting at a gas station located in the 11000 block of East Seven Mile Road. It is alleged that Buthia attempted to take the victim's Cartier glasses and when he resisted Buthia shot him in the abdomen. The victim received medical treatment from medics at the scene and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to the gunshot wound. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of Buthia on May 28, 2019.
Buthia has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and four counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned on Friday, May 31, 2019 and remanded to jail. His Probable Cause Conference is on June 14, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. and his Preliminary Examination is on June 21, 2019, both before Judge Kenyetta Jones in 36th District Court. Two DPD Sergeants Charged in 2018 Greektown Parking Lot Incident
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Detroit Police Department Sgt. Raytheon Martin, 40, and Sgt. Lacell Rue, 35. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 22, 2018, at approximately 2:55 a.m., in the lobby of the Greektown Casino parking garage. It is alleged that Sgt. Martin and Sgt. Rue had a verbal exchange with a 26-year-old Detroit man. During the exchange although the man did not make any aggressive physical gesture, it is alleged that Sgt. Martin struck the man in back of the head and proceeded to punch him multiple times while the man was on the ground. It is further alleged that Sgt. Rue tased the man twice, although he was not aggressive and was holding his hands up. The investigation revealed that the incident was captured on video.
Both defendants were arraigned this morning in 36th District Court. Sgt. Martin was arraigned on the charge of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm.* Sgts. Martin and Rue were both charged with Misconduct in Office, and Assault and Battery.* A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for June 13, 2019 and a Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 20, 2019, both before Judge E. Lynise Weeks-Bryant.
Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said, "Now that the matter is in progress we will not release or comment on any allegations or evidence. The evidence in the case will come out on the record in court."

Garden City Domestic Violence Homicide of DPD Officer Elaine Williams - The warrant request is being reviewed and charges are expected today. When the charges have been signed by a judge a press release will be distributed. The police will make arrangements for the defendant to have a hospital arraignment.
Taylor Robbery/Carjacking Case - WCPO does not have a warrant request for the case at this time. Taylor P.D. will be sending later today or tomorrow morning.
Detroit Man Charged with Second Degree Murder
and Other Charges in June 3rd Police Chase
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Christopher Lee Cavin, 29, (DOB: 10/23/1989) of Detroit, in connection with a police chase that culminated in the fatal shooting of Kevin Daniel Pudick, 41, (DOB: 06/12/1977) of Jackson, Michigan.
On June 3, 201 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Detroit police officers attempted a traffic stop of Cavin's car at Michigan Avenue and 31st Street. It is alleged that Cavin failed to pull over and sped off in his car that had no license plate. The police pursued Cavin on side streets and main roads leading to the I-75 expressway. Members of the Michigan State Police joined the pursuit.
It is alleged that, as they were being pursued, Cavin and Pudick made gestures as if they retrieving something at their feet. Cavin's car traveled southbound on West End Street and West Fort Street when it spun out of control and came to a stop. When officers exited their cars and attempted to arrest the two men, Cavin began ramming police cars in an attempt to flee. It is alleged that Cavin drove his car at a Detroit officer, causing him to fall so that he was pinned between the Cavin's car and a concrete wall. Fearing that the officer was in grave danger, officers at the scene fired their weapons into Cavin's car, striking Cavin and Pudick. Both men were placed into custody and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Pudick succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The police retrieved two loaded handguns from the floorboard in the front passenger compartment of Cavin's car. It is also alleged that cocaine and MDMA/Ecstasy were recovered from his car.
Cavin has been charged in 36th District Court with: Second Degree Murder; Assault with Intent to Murder; two counts of Fleeing and Eluding Police Officer; two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance; two counts of Carrying a Concealed Weapon; and five counts of Felony Firearm.*
Cavin had a hospital arraignment today. Upon his discharge from the hospital he will be remanded to the Wayne County Jail. A Probable Cause Conference has been scheduled for June 19th before Judge Ronald Giles. A Preliminary Exam has been tentatively scheduled for June 26, 2019. Detroit Man Charged with First Degree Murder, Assault, and
Felony Firearm in Triple LGBTQ Killings
DETROIT - June 6, 2019 - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, with the assistance of the Fair Michigan Justice Project (FMJP), has charged Devon Robinson, 19 (DOB: 10/20/2000), of Detroit, in connection with the killing of three members of Detroit's LGBTQ community. Prosecutors charged Robinson with three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, and five counts of the use of a firearm in connection with a felony.* Robinson will be arraigned tomorrow in 36th District Court after 9:00 a.m.
It is alleged that, on May 25, 2019, Robinson shot and killed Alunte Davis,21, Paris Cameron, 20, and Timothy Blancher, 20, all of Detroit, inside a home on Devonshire on Detroit's east side. Davis and Blancher were gay men, and Cameron was a transgender woman. Prosecutors also alleged Robinson shot and wounded two additional victims who have survived their injuries.
From May 25 to June 5, 2019, an investigation by Detroit Police officers led to Robinson's arrest yesterday.
The case was assigned to Special Prosecutor Jaimie Powell Horowitz of the FMJP, which is a collaboration between the Prosecutor's Office and Fair Michigan Foundation, Inc. FMJP is a program that assists Michigan law enforcement officers and prosecutors in solving serious crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons.
Prosecutor Worthy said, "The alleged actions of this defendant are disturbing on so many levels, but the fact that this happened during Pride Month adds salt into the wound. We must remain ever vigilant in our fight to eradicate hate in Wayne County and beyond."
Fair Michigan President Alanna Maguire said, "This case illustrates the mortal danger faced by members of Detroit's LGBTQ community, including transgender women of color. The LGBTQ community knows that the Fair Michigan Justice Project, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and the Detroit Police Department stand ready to aggressively prosecute these brutal crimes."

Garden City Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Detroit Police Officer
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Eddie Ray-Jr. Johnson, 35 (DOB: 08/19/1983) of Garden City, MI in connection with the fatal shooting of Elaine Williams, 34, a Detroit police officer. Johnson and Williams were domestic partners at the time of the shooting.
On June 2, 2019 at approximately 11:45 p.m., Garden City Police officers were dispatched to a location in the 200 block of Belton in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim, Elaine Williams, inside the home. The officers then located the defendant, who had sustained an injury, nearby. Medics arrived at the location; the defendant was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wound. It is alleged that the defendant fatally shot the victim multiple times. The facts and evidence of the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.
Prosecutor Worthy said, "By all accounts, Elaine Williams was a beloved member of the Detroit Police Department. We mourn her passing. This case is a stark example of what can potentially happen in every domestic violence case. The alleged actions of this defendant will be addressed fairly and justly."
Johnson has been charged in 21st District Court with First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned in a local hospital this morning. Upon discharge from the hospital Johnson will be remanded to the Wayne County Jail. His Probable Cause Conference is on June 17, 2019 and his preliminary Examination is on June 24, 2019. Allen Park Man Charged in Taylor Carjacking, Robbery and Assault
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged James Robert Farris, 40 (DOB: 07/29/1978), of Allen Park, in connection with the carjacking, armed robbery and assault of a 52-year-old Flat Rock woman.
On June 5, 2019 at approximately 8:38 a.m., Taylor police officers responded to a 911 call to a business in the 15800 block of Huron in Taylor, MI. Upon arrival, the officers were directed to the victim. It is alleged that the defendant carjacked the victim outside her place of employment, in the 23800 block of Eureka Road. The defendant produced a weapon, instructed the victim to move over and drove her in her vehicle to a nearby ATM. It is alleged that the defendant withdrew funds from the victim's account. It is alleged that the defendant then drove the victim to the business in the 15800 block of Huron and assaulted her before driving off in her vehicle with her personal property. Further facts and evidence of the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.
Farris has been charged with Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Unlawful Imprisonment, two counts of Financial Transaction Device - Stealing/Retaining Without Consent.* He was arraigned this afternoon before 23rd District Court Judge Geno Salomone. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 17, 2019 at 12:55 p.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 24, 2019 at 12:55 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Joseph Slaven in 23rd District Court.
