Southfield Man Charged in Gas Station Non-Fatal Shootings

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Charles Anthony Philips, 31 (DOB: 12/17/1987), of Southfield, in connection with two non-fatal shootings of a 13-year-old boy from Redford and a 23-year-old Lincoln Park man that occurred inside a gas station on Telegraph Road in Detroit.

On June 28, 2019 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a call at a gas station in the 19100 block of Telegraph Road. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the 13-year-old victim who had suffered a serious gunshot wound. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. The second victim, who also sustained a gunshot wound, was privately conveyed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. It is alleged that Philips discharged a weapon inside the gas station and shot two victims before leaving the scene on foot. After media coverage of the incident, Philips turned himself in to authorities.

Philips has been charged with three counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Serious Impairment, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Injury, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent and eight counts of Felony Firearm.*

Philips was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn M. White. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 12, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 17, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones in 36th District Court. Detroit Woman Charged in Dearborn Heights Vehicular Assault

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ladonna Marie Boatwright, 37 (DOB: 03/09/1982), of Detroit, in connection with the vehicular assault of a pregnant woman in a fast food parking lot in Dearborn Heights.

On June 29, 2019 at approximately 11:21 p.m., Dearborn Heights police officers were dispatched to a fast food parking lot in the 20400 block of West Warren regarding a fight. Upon arrival, the officers observed a woman, who was eight months pregnant, treated by medics and transported to a local hospital for further treatment. It is alleged that a verbal argument between the defendant and the victim escalated into a physical fight. It is further alleged that the defendant struck the victim with her vehicle.

Boatwright has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, two counts of Felonious Assault and Assaulting a Pregnant Individual.*

The defendant turned herself into authorities this morning and was arraigned this morning before 19th District Court Judge Plawecki. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 17, 2019 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 24, 2019 in 19th District Court in Dearborn Heights.
