Inkster Mother Charged in Shooting of Her Son

On Friday, March 6, 2018 Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Ebonie Schofield, 37, (DOB: 07/28/1980), of Inkster, in connection with the shooting of her son. On March 8, 2018 at approximately 8:00 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant and her son 16-year-old son had a verbal argument, with the parties shoving each other in their apartment located in the 630 block of Tobin Drive. As a result, the defendant made her son leave the location. While her son was outside banging on the apartment door, it is alleged that the defendant came out and shot him in the left shoulder with a handgun. The son was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wound. The defendant was taken into custody. The case was investigated by the Inkster Police Department, assisted by the Michigan State Police.

Schofield has been charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Careless Discharge of a Weapon Causing Injury or Death and Felony Firearm.* She was arraigned on Saturday, March 10, 2018 after 11:00 a.m. at 34th District Court in Romulus. She received a $500,000/10% bond, and if she is released she must wear a GPS tether and have no contact with her son. She will have a Probable Cause Conference on March 21, 2018 and his Preliminary Examination on March 28, 2018 both at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Sabrina Johnson.

Detroit Teen Charged as Co-Defendant in West Eight Mile Road Homicide

On Friday, March 9, 2018, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged 16-year-old Deante Controll Taylor (DOB: 11/06/2001), of Detroit, MI, as an adult co-defendant in connection with the homicide of Xavier Dawn Pratcher, age 61, of Southfield, MI. On February 28, 2018, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Edjuan Darico-Donald Jackson, 27 (DOB: 09/13/1990), of Detroit, MI, in connection with the homicide of Xavier Dawn Pratcher, age 61, of Southfield, MI.

On February 18, 2018 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to West Eight Mile Road and Rosemont Street in Detroit. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying in the eastbound lanes of West Eight Mile Road with an apparent head injury. Medics arrived and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. It is alleged that on February 18, 2018 at 1:30 a.m., Taylor and Jackson struck and kicked the victim while he was crossing West Eight Mile Road. The victim lost consciousness in the roadway and was subsequently struck by a vehicle. Investigation by the Detroit Police led to the identification of defendant.

Jackson was charged with Murder - Second Degree* and arraigned out-county by District Court Magistrate Elizabeth Disanto. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 6, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court.

Taylor was charged with Second Degree Murder* and was arraigned and remanded on Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus. His Probable Cause Conference will be on March 23, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 28, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. His case will be consolidated with Jackson's case.

Gerald Day - Charged in connection with an April 2017 home invasion and sexual assault that occurred in Grosse Pointe Woods. Today Judge Kevin Cox declared a mistrial because the defendant is medically unavailable. The new trial date is July 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Cox.

Detroit Man Charged with Careless Discharge of a Weapon

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Lewis Williams, 61, (DOB: 06/07/1956), of Detroit, in connection with a fatal shooting of Patricia Ann Cosby, age 55, also of Detroit.

On October 9, 2017, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Detroit Police officers responded to a 911 call regarding a dog attack in the 9500 block of Goodwin Street in Detroit. An updated dispatch indicated a shooting occurred. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers observed EMTs treating the victim who was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead after arrival.

It is alleged that Williams, in an effort to assist the victim being attacked by a stray dog, fired one shot in the direction of the dog and shot the victim. The defendant ran after the dog and fired two more shots. Upon his return to the scene, it is alleged that the defendant discovered that the victim sustained a gunshot wound.

Williams has been charged with Careless Discharge of a Weapon Causing Injury or Death*. Williams was arraigned on the warrant at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 26, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for April 2, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $45,000/10% bond.

Downriver Mother Charged After Infant Left Unattended in Vehicle

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jamie Lyn Stefanko, 35 (DOB: 07/06/1982), of Ecorse, in connection with leaving her infant child unattended in her car in the Southgate Sam's Club parking lot.

On March 14, 2018 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Southgate police officers were dispatched to the Sam's Club parking lot in the 15000 block of Northline Road in Southgate in response to report of a child left in a vehicle unattended. Upon arrival, the officers observed the child in the vehicle unattended. The defendant was arrested at the scene.

Stefanko has been charged with misdemeanors Child Abuse - Fourth Degree and Child-Abuse - Leaving a Child Unattended in a Vehicle*. She is expected to be arraigned on the warrant on Monday, March 16, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in 28th District Court.
