Oxford Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Matthew C. Bockhart, 28 (DOB: 11/12/1990), of Oxford, Michigan, in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred on September 11, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. It is alleged that Bockhart was driving recklessly when he struck and killed a 65-year-old man at Gratiot Avenue and Linnhurst Street. The victim was struck while he was working as a sign holder for a local business. It is further alleged that the defendant's car dragged the victim's body approximately 150 feet from the crash scene as he fled from the area. Investigation by Detroit Fatal Squad officers identified Bockhart as the driver. On September 12, 2019 he was taken into custody in Oakland County.

Defendant Bockhart has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Failure to Stop at Scene of Accident-When at Fault-Causing Death.* He was arraigned on September 14, 2019 in 34th District Court in Romulus. He received a $50,000/10% with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled on September 24, 2019, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled on October 1, 2019 in 36th District Court. Deangelo Martin Charged in Four East Side Murder Cases

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Deangelo Kenneth Martin, 34 (DOB: 05/30/1985), of Detroit, in connection with four murders of women that occurred on the east side of Detroit.*

Murder on Winthrop Street of Annetta Nelson, 57, of Detroit

On February 26, 2018, at 4:25 p.m., a 43-year-old man went into a vacant house in the 11620 block of Winthrop and discovered the body of a woman lying face down on the floor with blood on her face. He carried the victim outside and flagged down the police. The police found a used condom inside the house. The victim's lifeless body was taken to the Wayne County Morgue and she was later identified as Annetta Nelson, 57, of Detroit. Her death was determined by the Wayne County Medical Examiner to be a homicide caused by blunt force trauma. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of the defendant.

Defendant Martin has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Murder based upon the underlying felony of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree.*

Murder on Coventry Street of Nancy Harrison, 52, of Detroit

On March 19, 2019, Detroit police officers responded to a police run for a dead person inside a vacant house in the 20070 block of Coventry. The body was discovered by a Detroit man who went inside the house to smoke marijuana. The officers observed a deceased female positioned face down, and a used condom was found near her body. The victim's lifeless body was taken to the Wayne County Morgue and she was later identified as Nancy Harrison, 52, of Detroit. Her death was determined by the Wayne County Medical Examiner to be a homicide caused by blunt force trauma. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of the defendant.

Defendant Martin has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Murder based upon the underlying felony of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree.*

Murder on Linnhurst Street of Trevesene Ellis, 55, of Detroit

On March 24, 2019 at 7:20 p.m., Detroit police officers responded to a police run for a dead person at a location of a vacant house in the 13700 block of Linnhurst. The officers discovered a deceased female positioned face down, and a used condom was found near her body. Medics called to the scene pronounced the victim deceased. She was later identified as Trevesene Willis, 55, of Detroit. Her cause and manner of death were undetermined due to advanced decomposition. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of the defendant.

Defendant Martin has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Murder based upon the underlying felony of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree.*

Murder on Mack Avenue of Tamara Jones, 55, of Detroit

On June 5, 2019 at 5:10 a.m., at a vacant house in the 3690 block of Mack Avenue, two Detroit police officers were flagged down by a 59-year-old Detroit man who discovered the decomposed body of Ms. Jones inside the house. The officers observed her to be face down with a used condom found near her body. The victim's lifeless body was taken to the Wayne County Morgue. Her cause of death and manner of death were undetermined due to advanced decomposition. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of the defendant.

Defendant Martin has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Murder based upon the underlying felony of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree.*

Prosecutor Worthy said, "We are confident that this defendant's alleged criminal and predatory actions link him to all four of these homicides, as well as the two sexual assault cases that we charged him with previously. The details will be presented in court, and we will continue to pursue any and all evidence that may connect him to further crimes."

Martin was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea. The Probable Cause Conference on all four cases is scheduled for October 2, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination on all four cases is scheduled for October 9, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant remains in custody.

* Martin was charged on July 16 and July 23, 2019 in two Criminal Sexual Conduct cases. His calendar conferences will be heard on September 20, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Regina Thomas.

Garden City Senior Charged in Double Non-Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Phillip Joseph Demouy, 75 (DOB: 05/07/1944), of Garden City, Michigan, in connection with two non-fatal shootings.

On September 16, 2019 at approximately 11:01 a.m., Garden City police officers were dispatched to a location in the 180 block of Belton in Garden City in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located a 62-year-old Garden City man who was a non-fatal shooting victim outside of the location. He was initially treated by EMS medical technicians before transport to a local hospital for treatment. Officers then learned of a second non-fatal shooting victim inside the residence who is the defendant's caregiver. The 42-year-old Garden City woman was located and transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. The defendant was taken into custody at the scene and was also transported to a local hospital for unrelated treatment.

It is alleged that the defendant fired a weapon and shot his caregiver and her uncle.

Demouy has been charged with two counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, two counts of Felonious Assault and four counts of Felony Firearm.* A hospital arraignment was held today. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 30, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Richard Hammer in 21st District Court. The defendant received a $300,000 cash/surety/10% bond. A photograph of the defendant is attached.

Melvindale Preteen Male Charged with School Threats

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has been charged a 12-year-old juvenile male respondent from Melvindale, in connection with threats made to Strong Middle School in Melvindale, Michigan.

On September 15, 2019 at approximately 10:22 p.m., it is alleged that the juvenile respondent issued a threat toward students at the Strong Middle School in Melvindale through a cell phone app. The Melvindale Police Department was notified of the social media threat and, through their investigation, identified the juvenile respondent as the source of the threat.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with one count of Threat to Commit an Act of Violence against the School, Employees or students and one count of Malicious Use of a Telecommunication Device.* Both charges are misdemeanors in the adult system. The respondent, if convicted will be sentenced as a juvenile with an appropriate sentence in the juvenile justice system.

The Preliminary Hearing was held l be at the Juvenile Detention Facility, 1326 St. Antoine, Detroit, MI before Magistrate Leslie Graves today. He received a $7500 personal bond and will have a Pre-Trial Hearing before Referee Sean Kerman on September 27, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.
