Detroit Man Charged in Shooting of Niece

On September 17, 2017, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Ira C. Ellis, 57, (DOB: 10/6/59), of Detroit, in connection with killing his niece Katherine Grimes, 42, also of Detroit. On September 15, 2017 at 10:35 a.m., at a home in the 15800 block of Winthrop, it is alleged that Ellis fatally shot his niece multiple times with a handgun. Detroit police officers were called to the scene and placed Ellis under arrest. Medics pronounced Ms. Grimes dead on the scene.

Ellis was charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm*. He was arraigned on September 17, 2017 in 34th District Court and remanded to the Wayne County Jail. His probable cause hearing is on September 27, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is on October 4, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court.

Kong P. Kue - Defendant charged in the non-fatal shooting of his 14-year-old son by his 10-yearold son on Pfent Street in Detroit. On August 22, 2017 he pleaded no contest to Child Abuse Second Degree. Today Kue was sentenced to 3 years probation, 60 days in the WCJ with work release to start within three weeks, gun safety classes, parenting classes, no possession of guns, and must comply with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) - Children's Protective Services.

Robert Bashara - Defendant convicted in connection with the homicide of his wife Jane Bashara. Today the Michigan Court of Appeals has upheld his convictions. See opinion attached.

Dwuan Parkman - Defendant charged in connection with the June 2016 sexual assault of a flight attendant at Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus. Today a jury found the Defendant guilty as charged of Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree, Criminal Sexual Conduct - Third Degree and Home Invasion First Degree. His sentencing date is on October 5, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Michael Hathaway.

Mark Washington - 50, (DOB: 03/20/1967) charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Felonious Assault and Felony Firearm* in connection with the September 17, 2017 assault on his wife, Dawn Washington, 50, that occurred in their home located in the 24200 block of Northline in Taylor. It is alleged that he shot her. He was arraigned today and received a $1million cash/surety bond. The probable cause conference is scheduled for October 2, 2017 at 12:55 p.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 9, 2017 at 12:55 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Geno Salomone in 23rd District Court.
