Man Charged in Drug Death in
Dearborn Heights Fast Food Parking Lot

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ryan Patrick Dwyer, 41 (DOB: 11/23/1977), of Dearborn Heights, in connection with the August 26, 2018 narcotics overdose death of Ricky Cox, 24, of Baypoint, California.

On August 29, 2018, the lifeless body of Cox was found in the passenger side of a car in the parking lot of a Taco Bell in the 4500 block of Telegraph Road in Dearborn Heights. Three days earlier, on August 26, 2018, it is alleged that Dwyer delivered a controlled substance to Cox that caused his death. Dwyer also stole his personal property and fled from the location. Investigation by the Dearborn Heights Police Department led to the arrest of Dwyer. The facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.

The defendant has been charged with Homicide - Delivering a Controlled Substance Causing Death, Involuntary Manslaughter, Larceny from a Person, and Illegal Use of a Financial Transaction Device.*

Dwyer was arraigned today in 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 12, 2018 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 19, 2018 in 20th District Court.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
