Waterford Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Blakeman, 35 (DOB: 03/08/1983), of Waterford, in connection with fatal car crash the killed his wife, Angelina Melnikova-Blakeman, 32. Ms. Melnikova-Blakeman, of Russia, had recently married the defendant at the time of her death.

On February 22, 2019 at approximately 5:34 p.m., Detroit police responded to a car crash that occurred on Wyoming Avenue near Plymouth Road in Detroit. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had been traveling southbound on Wyoming. Medics responded to the scene and transported Ms. Melnikova-Blakeman a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The defendant was taken to another local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that the defendant was driving his vehicle at a high rate of speed when he lost control, left the roadway and struck utility poles before crashing into the rear of another vehicle, also traveling southbound on Wyoming. It is further alleged that the defendant was driving while under the influence of drugs.

Blakeman has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death and Reckless Driving Causing Death.* He was arraigned this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in 36th District Court before Magistrate Dawn White. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 8, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 15, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $1 million cash/surety bond. Please request a photograph from the Detroit Police Department after the arraignment.
