Garden City Senior Charged in Double Non-Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Phillip Joseph Demouy, 75 (DOB: 05/07/1944), of Garden City, Michigan, in connection with two non-fatal shootings.

On September 16, 2019 at approximately 11:01 a.m., Garden City police officers were dispatched to a location in the 180 block of Belton Street in Garden City in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located one non-fatal shooting victim outside of the location, who was initially treated by EMS medical technicians before transport to a local hospital for treatment. Officers then learned of a second non-fatal shooting victim inside the residence who is the defendant's caregiver. She was located and transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. The defendant was taken into custody at the scene and was also transported to a local hospital for unrelated treatment.

It is alleged that the defendant fired a weapon and shot his caregiver and her uncle.

Demouy has been charged with two counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, two counts of Felonious Assault and four counts of Felony Firearm.* A hospital arraignment was held today. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 30, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Richard Hammer in 21st District Court. The defendant received a $300,000 cash/surety/10% bond.
