Off Duty Detroit Officer Charged With Operating
Under the Influence of Alcohol

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Detroit police officer Samuel Anderson, 24, in connection with driving his personal vehicle under the influence of alcohol when he was off duty. On July 21, 2018, at 11:11 p.m. police were dispatched to a car accident at Grand River and Cass Avenue. When the police investigated the accident scene, they observed damage to Anderson's car, and it is alleged that Anderson was under the influence of alcohol with his department issued handgun on his person. He was arrested at the scene. Another driver that was involved in the accident drove away before the police arrived.

Anderson has been charged with of one count OWI and one count of Possession a Weapon While Intoxicated*. Anderson was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. A pre-trial is scheduled for August 2, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Roberta Archer in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $4,000/10% bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
