Detroit Juvenile Faces Weapons Charges

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 15-year-old male juvenile in connection with an attempt to carry a weapon into Mumford High School in Detroit.

On March 19, 2019 at approximately 9:00 a.m., upon entering his school, the juvenile respondent passed through the metal detector and triggered the alarm. A search of his backpack resulted in the recovery of a firearm. It is alleged that the juvenile respondent was carrying a concealed weapon and a replica of a handgun into his high school.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Facsimile Firearm.* A Pre-Trial is scheduled for April 5, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. before Referee Charles Wilson at the Lincoln Hall of Justice.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
