Detroit Teen Charged with School Threats

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has been charged Randall Bowen, 17, (DOB: 08/21/2000), of Detroit, in connection with threats made to the Ben Carson High School in Detroit.

On March 1, 2018, at approximately 3:30 p.m., an email was sent to Ben Carson High School issuing a threat against the school. It is alleged that defendant Randall Bowen sent the email. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Bowen.

Defendant Bowen has been charged with one count of False Report or Threat of Terrorism, a 20 year felony offense and one count of Malicious Use - Telecommunications Services, a six month misdemeanor*.

Bowen was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 15, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $25,000/10%bond.

*The charges are allegations unless and until the defendant is convicted.
