Juvenile Charged in Central High School Sexual Assault

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 15-year-old Detroit male in connection with the sexual assault of a Central High School student. On October 8, 2018 at approximately 3:00 p.m., it is alleged that the juvenile respondent took two cellphones from the female victim's desk. She followed him into a hallway to get her phone, when it is alleged that he grabbed her by the neck and forced her to a back stairway. Once in the hallway he choked her, pulled her down the stairs and sexually assaulted the victim.

The juvenile has been adult designated, which means upon conviction he can be sentenced as a juvenile, or as a defendant, or the judge can blend the sentence and fashion a juvenile and adult sentence. He has been charged with: two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, four counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree and Larceny under $200.00.*

Today a Preliminary Hearing was held before Referee Leslie Graves at the Juvenile Detention Facility. A $25,000 cash bond was ordered, pending a Preliminary Examination scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Virgil Smith at the Lincoln Hall of Justice. If bond is posted, the juvenile must have no contact, direct or indirectly, with the 15-year-old victim, or any potential witness in this case.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
