Detroit Man Charged in Family Dollar Robbery

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Maurice Donquial Thompson-Moore, 26 (DOB: 07/10/1992), of Detroit, in connection with the Family Dollar Store armed robbery of three women and the non-fatal shooting of a 27-year-old Detroit security guard, who was on duty at the time.

On the evening of September 10, 2018, at a Family Dollar Store located in the 18200 block of Schoolcraft Road, it is alleged that the defendant and another male suspect were armed with hand guns when they demanded that an 18-year-old Detroit woman working at the store open the cash register. When informed by the woman that only a manager could open the register, the manager, a 50-year-old Lincoln Park woman, was located, and ordered to open the register to obtain money for the two robbers. It is alleged that the defendant also took a wallet at gun point from a 25-year-old Detroit woman. When the security guard emerged from the rear of the store, he fatally wounded the male robbery suspect. It is alleged that the defendant exited a side door, encountered the security guard, wounded him, and fled from the scene.

At 7:49 p.m. on the same day, Detroit police officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar Store in response to the shooting. Upon arrival, the officers found the wounded security guard in the bathroom. The officers also found the lifeless body of the other male robber. Medics arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead. The security guard was transported to a local hospital and was treated for his wound. Thompson-Moore was later identified and arrested by the police.

Thompson-Moore has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, three counts of Armed Robbery, one count of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and four counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned this morning before 36^th District Court Magistrate Dawn M. White. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 20, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 26, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36^th District Court. The defendant received a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
