Southfield Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Chirin Kudeimati, 48, (DOB: 09/19/1971), of Southfield, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Najla Mateen, II, 40, of Detroit.

On December 4, 2019 at approximately 1:06 p.m., Redford police officers responded to the area of West McNichols Road and Telegraph Road in response to a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Detroit police officers and EMS also arrived on the scene and discovered the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation by both Redford and Detroit police officers led to the arrest of the defendant. It is alleged that the defendant was traveling northbound on Telegraph Road near the 23800 block of West McNichols Road when she struck the victim, who was in the crosswalk, disregarded the red signal and fled the scene.

Chirin has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Causing Death.* She was arraigned on December 6, 2019 in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 12, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 19, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court.
