Three Charged in Murder of CVS Guard
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Jeremy Vincell Jackson, 24 (DOB 3/27/91), Ronnie Alsonzo Anderson-Williams, 26 (DOB 3/17/89) and Jamare Lanell Rucker, 20 (DOB 1/6/94), each of Detroit, in connection with the carjacking of three female victims and the homicide of CVS guard Courtney Meeks, 24 , of Detroit.
It is alleged that on February 26, 2014, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the three defendants, armed with handguns, robbed a female victim of her purse and her car keys at a location in the 17100 block of Hartwell in Detroit. When Jackson and Anderson-Williams attempted to drive off in her car, it would not start. The three defendants fled the scene and Anderson-Williams went home.
Defendants Jackson and Rucker continued to the location of a CVS parking lot located at 16800 Schaefer in Detroit. The defendants were armed with handguns when they attempted another carjacking. While the crime was in progress, security guard Courney Meeks, dressed in full uniform, ran across the parking lot to the aid of the female victims, when shots were fired by the defendants. The defendants escaped in the car they stole from the women. Meeks was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound to the neck. It is alleged that later that night, Jackson and Rucker abandoned the car and fled to the home of Anderson-Williams. As a result of a Crime Stoppers tip, the police investigation lead to the arrest of Jackson, Anderson-Williams and Rucker.
Defendant 1 - Jeremy Vincell Jackson Charges:
Jackson has been charged with: Felony Murder, Armed Robbery - two counts, Carjacking - two counts and Felony Firearm - two counts.
Defendant 2 - Ronnie Alsonzo Anderson-Williams Charges:
Anderson-Williams has been charged with Armed Robbery - one count, Carjacking - one count, and Felony Firearm - two counts.
Defendant 3 - Jamare Lanell Rucker Charges:
Rucker has been charged with: Felony Murder, Armed Robbery - two counts, Carjacking - two counts Felon in Possession of a Firearm - two counts and Felony Firearm - two counts.
"Mr. Meeks was the quintessential Good Samaritan who was allegedly murdered by these defendants that we charge today. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to his family. It is my hope that we can all learn from his example and continue to work hard to help and support all of those who live, work, and play in the City of Detroit," said Prosecutor Worthy.
The defendants are expected to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. today in 36th District Court. Please contact the Detroit Police Department for photographs of the defendants.
