Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Larez Hakess McKnight, 25, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shootings of Detroit police officers.

On March 31, 2023, at approximately 7:37 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a store in the 7340 block of Puritan for a reported felonious assault. While canvassing the area, officers located the defendant in front of a residence in the 16230 block of San Juan. While officers were still in their vehicle, it is alleged that Defendant McKnight produced and fired a handgun multiple times at the officers. Officers then exited their vehicle and returned fire while Defendant McKnight fled from the area on foot. While pursuing the defendant, officers and McKnight exchanged gunfire. During the gunfire, the defendant was wounded in the left leg. The officers were not injured in the incident. Defendant McKnight was apprehended two streets over at a residence in the 16350 block of Tuller Street and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Larez Hakess McKnight has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
