Eric R. Sabree
Eric R. Sabree has been Wayne County Treasurer since April, 2016. He works on behalf of 43 municipalities and is responsible for the receipt, custody, investment, and disbursement of all County funds with a special emphasis on the collection of delinquent property taxes.As Treasurer, Sabree is the Chairman of the Wayne County Land Bank and a member of the Wayne County Election Commission. Prior to being appointed and then elected Treasurer, Sabree served Wayne County as Deputy Treasurer and Chief Deputy Treasurer in the Treasurer's office and Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel. Before joining the County, Sabree managed his own law practice and had a long public service career with the City of Detroit.
Sabree went to Miller Jr. High and Catholic Central High School in Detroit. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, Sabree graduated from the Detroit College of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, the U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan and the Supreme Court of the United States.
During his three year tenure as Treasurer, property tax foreclosures have been reduced by 85 percent. 40 payment kiosks have been installed in 16 different cities making it easier for taxpayers to pay (99,400 transactions in 2018) and text message alerts are sent monthly to over 30,000 taxpayers reminding them of their payment plan due dates. Eric Sabree is a past President of Kiwanis Club No. 1, Detroit, where he has been active for 27 years, serving the needs of children. He currently serves as Vice President of the Club's Foundation board.Sabree is married to his wife Badriyyah and they have three adult children and three grandchildren.
