Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged De-L Alekshay-Makalo Wesley, 49, of Eastpointe, in connection with a car crash that killed Dylan Bradford, 27, of Detroit, and non-fatally injured a 35-year-old man, of Inkster.

On January 1, 2024, at approximately 2:58 a.m., at the intersection of Hayes Street and Young Street in Detroit, Mr. Bradford was involved in a motor vehicle collision. At approximately 5:00 a.m., a tow truck arrived at the scene to tow the victim's vehicle. At approximately 5:14 a.m., it is alleged that Defendant Wesley was intoxicated, driving southbound on Hayes Street when he collided with the tow truck, causing the truck to shift and strike Mr. Bradford and the tow truck driver. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced Mr. Bradford deceased. The surviving victim and Defendant Wesley were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

De-L Alekshay-Makalo Wesley has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function (surviving victim) Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury (surviving victim).*

He was arraigned late this afternoon in the hospital by 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea. He received a $100,000 cash bond. If he posts bond, he will be on house arrest with a GPS and alcohol tether.

His Probable Cause Conference is on January 12, 2024, in 36th District Court.

"This is a very hard, but unfortunately not a surprising way to start the New Year. Lives will be changed forever. The evidence in this case will show that alcohol was involved when the defendant was driving. Now a man is dead, and another is seriously injured," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
