Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lania Julieah Conn, 24, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Markayla Sadler, 27, of Redford. Cory Leniel Campbell, 25, also of Detroit, has been charged in connection with having a concealed weapon during the incident.

On July 18, 2023, at approximately 12:53 a.m., Livonia police officers were dispatched to a party store in the 13820 block of Merriman Road for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the deceased victim in the parking lot, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Ms. Sadler and Defendant Conn got into a verbal altercation inside of the store. When Defendant Conn exited the store with the 24-year-old male in the driver's side of the vehicle, a physical altercation between Conn and Ms. Sadler escalated, and it is alleged that Defendant Conn produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Ms. Sadler. Defendant Conn and the 24-year-old male driver left the scene. It is also alleged that Defendant Campbell possessed a concealed weapon at the time of the incident. Further facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the Preliminary Examination.

Lania Julieah Conn has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder, and one count of Felony Firearm. * Cory Leniel Campbell has been charged with one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon. *

Both defendants were arraigned this afternoon before Magistrate Barbara Scherr in 16th District Court. Defendant Conn was remanded to jail and Defendant Campbell received a $5,000/10% bond.

The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 3, 2023, before Judge Sean Kavanagh. Defendant Conn's Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 10, 2023, also before Judge Sean Kavanagh.
